From Ancient Egyptian times to present days, glass making has been a passion for many. According to al-Biruni, (Persian scholar and polymath, regarded as one of the greatest scholars of the eleventh century) traditional glass making was a discipline where the chemist needed to observe the glass artisan and actually get involved in the work and do experiments on the compositions to be able to properly discuss the different glass colours which arose from metal oxides. To this day, passionate designers and collectors are drawn to the various forms of glass, both within the historical context as well as the contemporary one. JamSpace carries a variety of vibrant colourful glass ware in all its shapes and forms. The array of colours would have provided fertile ground for al-Biruni’s observations.
